. I read your posting “Finding Paradise” and just wanted to say how lovely. The description of the old neighborhood, the dogwoods, the reaction of your son and you to change reminds me how every experience shapes who we are. That sounds silly, but sometimes I think when we are young, we don’t realize the effort it took to create “paradise”. Then, when we have children of our own, it takes a drive through an old neighborhood, and we realize what we are passing on when we stop to share the dogwoods and the yards with our children — and our readers. May your writing continue to go well.

“A new kind of normal” is great advice but I think a pity party is always helpful to get back to normal. The dogwoods are beautiful! Good luck on embracing change.

I still live on my hill with its incomparable view, but I wish I could turn time back to all the pleasures I remember, see my children small again, be able to go jogging or climb a mountain. Moving forward is all that any of us can do.

Such a moving posting. Sadly, moving back to “Paradise” often leads to comparisons of how it used to be and hence disappointments. It can never be the same. Better to leave the memory beautifully intact.

I”m feeling that we will be moving away from our little paradise here soon…forest, brook, friendly neighbors and all. The adults in our family can make any place work for them, but what about the kids? Will they have such beauty to explore in the new place?

I think we’ll figure it out. There are beauties wherever you go, things you wouldn’t see or experience anywhere else. But nostalgia can always grip our hearts.

Very moving post. It’s so hard to move on. We remember the good, happy stuff from before. At least you have all these wonderful memories to hold in your heart. It takes some time to adjust to new situations. But like Louann said, paradise and peace can sometimes be found by looking in your heart.
