Herbal Ways to Turn Kids into Healthy Eaters, Part III
So, here’s my “juice alternative,” another strategy to create healthy eaters. I do not like my kids to have juice, and there’s plenty of science to back me up. It’s been linked to obesity, and nutritional displacement (fill up on juice, you skip the protein). So, once again everything in moderation.
But here’s an alternative. Start with Celestial Seasonings Red Raspberry Zinger tea. Kids love it and it contains all those antioxidants and minerals from a real plant source. Then, go one step further and make it extra healthy by adding herbal tea blends from Mountain Rose Herbs. Many of these teas contain herbs used in herbal remedies, and can help build a strong immune system. Here are some of their blends: Easy Day Tea, Dream Tea, Citrus Tea, Fairytale Tea, Happy Tummy Tea … the list goes on.
This is how I make it. Put the loose herbs, the Celestial Seasonings tea bags, and sugar (your decide) into a non-aluminum, and non-plastic container or a glass jar. (I like to use a thermos.) Pour boiling water on top, cover and let steep. The longer the better. I steep overnight. Then strain the tea through a fine-mesh strainer, and pour into a pitcher. Add ice and serve.
