I need more of this

(un)relaxeddad passed on on a little present. He danced with his little dudelet (picture it, and see the charm) to the National’s “The Boxer”. Do yourself a little favor, and follow his link to the show, here. Helped me realize I’m just working way too hard. Maybe it’s because my friend Holly just got back from this show, and gave us play-by-plays after the show via e-mail. I’m missing the energy that comes from a live show. Even a dose of Austin City Limits would be great. Did I ever tell you that I almost became a concert pianist? I was that good. But, I figured I’d work nights and weekends — and I didn’t like those hours. So, instead, I went for Greek Mythology. Then Journalism, with a minor in English.

But I’m just working too hard. Trying to figure out what to have for dinner, filling out the school forms that are already coming in the mail, and worrying about whether or not I have the kids enrolled in the right extra curricular activities, canceling a Visa that I just can’t find today, and figuring out how we’ll get the van into the shop for it’s 3-hour maintenance check.

It’s past 10 p.m., and the kids are all hovering around me, as I try to clean this room, jamming to this concert. They won’t leave. They’re looking at books, playing quietly with toys. The room is small — too tight. But somehow, none of us are getting into each other’s way. I guess they need this just as much as I do. And, I guess that’s a good thing — because one of my boys got so mad tonight, he threw a tantrum. And he threw a whole package of new diapers into the bathtub — and it was full of water. Listening to this music is calming for all of us.

At the lake house, I think missing music is much harder than going without WiFi. We need to work on that one.

Like all of you, I am overwhelmed and am currently working on a plan to eliminate all need for sleep so that I will have enough hours in the day. I'll let you know as soon as I have all the kinks worked out. I treasure your comments and emails. I do read them all.
  1. I guess he wants to be potty-trained!

  2. I wouldn’t really know what to do with / make of those wet nappies!

  3. OK Jen, but he is potty trained! They were his brother’s diapers. And did I mention that before the diapers, he cut his brother’s sandals apart with scissors? And Louann, carrying those diapers downstairs and outside was quite a challenge — they were so heavy — we had to carry them down in batches. I don’t think the garbage man will be able to lift them to put in the truck.

  4. I feel you. I know there is a bit of summer left, I know it, but fall is cluttering my mind - what activities should we commit to, etc. It is wearing.

I hope you find a little peace today and rest. (Maybe a little yoga squeezed in?)

  5. Oh I would have cried to have had all those diapers go to waste!!! Hope the day got more peaceful!

  6. Oh, those diapers! I’m glad you all got the chance to soothe yourselves with some music. I don’t think I could go without it.

  7. I’m trying to think of 101 uses for water-logged diapers, but I’m having a hard time! : ) Freeze them and use them in your cooler? Use them as a beer or soda can holder to keep your beverage cool? Oh, I’m on a roll!! Wait, wait! Water polo helmets!! SNORT!
