I’m buying a new vacuum cleaner — which one sucks more?
I still haven’t bought a new vacuum. But maybe I’ll win one — you could too. Check this post out.
To a mom of 4 boys, a good vacuum claner — no matter how expensive — is more valuable than therapy. My Miele Vacuum Cleaner is heading for a new life at the lake house. We have a very close relationship — I found him 8 years ago when I only had two little boys, and I thought life was really messy. I am always amazed at the way this vacuum sucks — powerful, quick. You don’t need a flat head to get into the corners — because it sucks everything out of the corners before you can get the sweeper head in there. When I’m done cleaning, I always do a head count to make sure all four boys are here and no one got sucked into the bag.
Two boys later, and yes, that Miele has seen me through a lot of dirty days. So, as my first, he gets to go to the lake house.
So, I need a new one back home. I like the idea of this bagless system from Dyson. I do spend quite a bit of money on Vacuum Bags. The Hepa filter on the Dyson is nice too. But my vacuum repairman cautions me against the Dyson — he says, stick with the Miele. (He sells Dyson too — so I tend to trust him.)
But several reviewers have nothing but good things to say about the Dyson — I’m heading for the new Dyson “Slim” Vacuum. I have an older house, and closet space is scarce. They tell me it’s the same amount of power as the other versions. I’m not sure which way to go. Miele or Dyson? Help me out here.

Sorry…I don’t know about either! I avoid vacuum cleaners LOL. Well, that’s a lie. I have to use a vacuum with five cats. But, I avoid decisions.
I hope to get a Dyson after my current one dies. Is that harsh?
Miele! I love our cat-and-dog-hair optimised Miele - still going strong six years in…
So, (un)relaxeddad — what if you were REPLACING your Miele? Would you go for the bagless? Yes, I know we know that the Miele works well — but maybe the Dyson is as powerful — without those bags!!! This is a TOUGH call.
I am a Miele devotee. I bought the Miele (saved up over $600 to pay for it in cash - is that sick or what?) because I liked the Hepa filter (we have two cats), it is a bag system (I really don’t like emptying canisters because I feel that a lot of the dust and particles get retossed into the air when you’re doing that), and it is a canister vacuum. I felt the uprights were hard on my back and were hard to carry up and down stairs. If I had to do it again I would buy a Miele again. I did have one weird problem…the cord retractor broke and had to be replaced. I forgot to ask the dealer what caused that because I think that was unusual. I’ve had mine for four years, I think, and otherwise going strong.
Go for the Miele! I have 2. One I inherited from my MIL when she bought a new one. It must be 15 years old and still going great. The new one I bought 3 or 4 years ago is the one I use on the house. The old one is for animal hair or car clean ups and ash sucking from the fireplaces. I’ve used it for everything. We live in the country in Norway. Theres alot of dirt. In the states I had that real fancy one what was it the Kirby. Miele is better! HAve I convinced you yet. Oh by the way I have 3 kids, 4 if u add my husband. Go Miele!!

I have the pink Dyson and I love it. It sucks up stuff I didn’t want to know I had in my carpet. It’s a little heavy and the hose pull off thingy (too technical?) is a little awkward but I love it anyway. I have the pink one but I’ve heard the slim is much lighter. I put off buying this vacuum for as long as I could because I had a hard time justifying paying $400 for a vacuum but when Target offered a $100 gift card along with the vacuum I was sucked in. I actually wrote a review on my vacuum on my blog: http://thepeachronicles.blogspot.com/2007/09/road-tested-dyson.html
