Logic lost
On Nov.1, former KGB operative Alexander Litvinenko ate at Itsu, a sushi restaurant chain, in Piccadilly Square in London. Three weeks later, he was dead. Before he died, he blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for poisoning him with polonium. The investigation has temporarily closed the Piccadilly branch, but the owners have opened its first location in the U.S. This location, in New York, was full of curious diners on opening day. Luke Fryer, the American licensee of Itsu, says “ When I started talking about Itsu to my friends in the States six months ago, no one had ever heard of it. But now, standing here this morning, everyone’s like, ‘Oh, you’re the guys from London.’ I ended up getting a global brand.” WSJ, Sat., Dec. 9, 2006
I love great writing: “If he (President Bush) suffers, they might tell us: it would make him seem more normal, which is always a heartening thing to see in a president. But maybe there is no suffering. Maybe he outsources suffering. Maybe he leaves it to his father.” From Declarations, by Peggy Noonan, “A Father’s Tears.” WSJ, Sat., Dec. 9, 2006
