Parenting Help from 1953

FYI, a Land ‘0 Lakes butter box is lurking beneath the black construction paper.

Now, I need to figure out a way to hang it. As you can see from this photo, I’m being overly optimistic again with the white tablecloth. Rainy Days demand that you do this for yourself. Still, at least it’s not snowing. If you’re hungry, I have a new post up over at Midwest Parents. Also, a book review up at Susiej/Reviews.

While at the lake, WiFi is seriously lacking in my life... I can't wait to read your comments.
  1. I love parenting, marriage and homemaking advice from long ago. They make me smile and then give me perspective on the advice that I am reading today.

MomOnTheGo, The 50s were an interesting time for Mothers… in same ways, I think it was easier not to have so many choices.

  2. When I was a kid we had a book similar to this that we loved to get out and do crafts from. It was a lot of fun. Thanks for the memories.

  3. cool. I need you to post everyday gal! :)

Amy, really? Thought I was getting a tad boring. Although a real, live playdate would be nice.

  4. This is indeed very educational for the parents as well. Happy WW!

  5. Looks like fun. Wish I could walk without pain in my pelvis. That would make this type of thing easier to do. I’m feeling guilty as I’ve parked my son in front of a movie. My daughter at least is off to a children’s museum with her school.

Heather, you are making me laugh… I know it’s not funny! But since I’ve walked the walk, I qualify to be able to laugh. Maybe you could put a similar book in front of your five-year old, I hear girls are good about that, and she could make something with/for her brother. Hang in there!

  6. Creative!

    Happy WW!

  7. Looks like a great book and what a fun project! Well done…
Hope the sun shines down on you all for a few days in a row…

  8. I love those old books! There crafts are timeless! That looks like a great one to make.

  9. I bet it was a lot of fun to make that traffic light! Happy WW

  10. That’s very impressive! Great job!

  11. That is an AWESOME stop light.
Take a paper clip and partly unfurl it - stick part of through the box and bend it again, leaving a hook-y part at the top to hang it from.

I know Beck, would have killed for a stoplight like this one as a child!

  12. My kids just emptied out of tissue boxes to make robots with them :P now I’m stuck at loose tissue with no place to keep them…LOL~

Pierce a hole where you’ve tape the top and thread a string with a knot?

    Brilliant. I’m on it.

  13. Oh please oh please, throw us a bone…what are some of the tidbits from 1953?

Oh Gift of Green… so glad you asked. My favorite? Make sure that not only the house is clean before Daddy gets home; but that you scrub the children’s faces, and lie down for fifteen minutes before he arrives so you look fresh and relaxed.

  14. That’s a great idea! Would hot glue hold a string to the top of that work of art? I love the book shot.

  15. That looks nice..reminds me of 1976 Art Class …
