So, you like ice?
Sunday Scribbling this weekend is about teeth or ice. I chose teeth.
I mean, really, really like ice? If so, you might want to check out this website, IceChewing.com, where you can exchange your recipe for the best ice. Turns out, there are several recipes for ice. Among them are:
Go — check it out — you’ll be amazed at what you’ll find there. The site has 3,192 registered members and gets about 1,000 hits a day, according to the site’s owner, Todd Robinson.
Some people just can’t get enough ice. The WSJ (Jan. 30, 2008, pA1) interviewed Jean Collins, a 44-year-old substitute teacher in Riverton, Wyo., says she chews through 10 to 14 28-ounce cups of shaved ice a day. TZ Riggins ordered four, 32-ounce cups of ice in a cardboard carrier. Total cost: $1 — he has a $5 a week habit.
This ice chewing compulsion has been around for centuries. But now, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention attributes obsessive ice chewing to an iron deficiency. So, if you really like ice, you might want to get that checked out. Chewing ice is hard on your teeth, dentists say.
In the meantime, we’re waiting on yet another snow storm with lots of ice to kick in. The kids are hoping school will be canceled tomorrow. I have hopes that it will be… and we will have lot and lots of fun. I’m such an optimist.

Oh, you know… doing that things parents aren’t supposed to do, like… helping my son with his homework. He needed an article from the newspaper about health. The WSJ was sitting on the table — and THIS was on the front page.

Obsessive ice chewing due to an iron deficiency? I was once told it was due to a lack of sex. Of course, that probably came from a husband that was trying to remedy that problem.

i chocked on an ice cube once as a child,, and that was probably the last time i put a piece of ice in my mouth… i cannot fathom such a fascination,, but then again,, there are a lot of things i cannot fathom….. very nice post…

I went through an ice chewing phase, during my third pregnancy. Could well have been an iron deficiency… or lack of sex… lol Great post!
