In anthroposophy we call that life force or vitalism the etheric body -- what gives any living thing basic life (plants have it, but not rocks) and what determines the form the thing will take. So the etheric body is also what performs the miracle of forming new skin after a big scrape -- what else tells your skin cells to grow back in the same shape and size and structure?

Anyway, kids seem to know/learn these things really easily, especially when they can observe living things for themselves.

I had to laugh -- my son is SO authoritative, about things he knows absolutely nothing about. It would drive me batty if it weren't so funny.

THat is so adorable. When my daughter was young (maaany years ago) she loved frogs. On a camping trip once when she was 3 or 4, a friend though he might tease her with a handful of tiny frogs. When she saw them she squealed with delight, tucked her T-Shirt into her bathing suit bottoms and began collecting little frogs by dropping them down her shirt. It wasn't exactly the response our friend was expecting from a girl!
