If you don’t win, you could always try throwing a fit
I gave my little boy a quarter as we left the grocery store, so he could buy a plastic alien in its own spaceship. To his disappointment, the quarter got stuck in the machine, and sadly, no alien dropped into his little hand.
He, threw a fit.
Exasperated, I dug into my purse to find another quarter, and of course, I had none.
There was a man, however, working on The Claw. “Sir, do you service this machine too?”
“No, mam, I’m sorry I don’t.”
I pushed the cart out of the store, wielding the cart, while I held his hand, and tried to maneuver my son safely out of the store and through the parking lot. Then, the man at the claw machine kept looking after us as we left. He motioned for us to come back.
“I’m throwing out all of these Halloween stuffed animals, and you’re welcome to them.”
The tears stopped, as he grabbed handfuls — armfuls — of stuffed animals, and he was filled with glee.
I said, as we walked to the car, “Don’t get used to this, because life doesn’t always just miraculously turn out this well very often.”
