Thanksgiving Mornings Start with a Mug of Pumpkin Pie
On Thanksgiving Morning, with the house in a tizzy with a turkey that went into the oven at 6, with the smells of salt,
rosemary and turkey wafting through the house, the kitchen is already in full
swing. The sinks are full of dirty dishes, the counters are covered with bowls
waiting for the vegetables, and the kids stumble down the stairs struggling to
find their cereal bowls.
Instead, on that morning, I serve them a bowl of pumpkin – kind of
like a pumpkin milkshake, except that it’s warm. The pumpkin makes this drink
full of beta-carotene. , Each cup is filled with freshly
grated nutmeg, ginger and comfort spices — you can make it in one big batch,
store it in the fridge and drink it all week.
Here’s the recipe for 6 servings:
- Six cups of milk. Soy or cow’s milk. Optional on the whether
you use 2 percent or whole. If you want something really decadent, use 3
cups half and half and one half milk. We used 2 percent only, it was very
good. - 2/3 cup of sugar. (You may need less.)
- 1 cup pumpkin puree. Canned, or fresh. This is a
great way to use up left-over fresh pumpkin, if you have a bit left-over
from your pie. - 2 tablespoons vanilla extract.
- 1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon All Spice
- Cinnamon & Sugar for sprinkling on top
- Whipping cream, optional.
Method:
- Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan.
- Heat on low, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved.
- As soon as mixture comes to a simmer, remove from heat and
serve in mugs. - Whip up whipping cream for top, and sprinkle with cinnamon and
sugar. - Store left-overs (seriously, call me to help you finish) in the
fridge for breakfast.

My mom would always serve a kringle on holiday mornings. Just from the grocery store but pretty good. And I don’t even like kringle much but it’s such a strong part of holiday memories that I wanted to start a similar tradition as soon as I had children.
I would just like bacon and eggs every day for the rest of my days. That would be a fine tradition
truthhole@gmail.com
My grandmother would buy champagne and smoked salmon as a special treat. It was my job to toast bread triangles, spread on some cream cheese, a slice of salmon, diced onions, lemon juice and capers… and we would devour platefuls of it with champagne (which I was only privy to after turning about 14). It was always very exciting and my sister and I would open our stockings as we had breakfast. This is my first Christmas with my own little family and I plan on continuing the tradition!
Biscuits, bacon and potatoes.
Our ritual consists of me cooking breakfast every morning. Scrambled eggs, sometimes waffles, crepes, french toast, or oatmeal. Then I help the kiddos get ready! On holidays we always make a little something holiday related for breakfast, like Boo-Berry Muffins!

We each have our favorite sugary (bad!) cereal wrapped under the tree, after we open all of our gifts (and cereal) on Christmas morning we all get to eat a big bowl of our favorite treat cereal!
Christmas day is the only time. I host the family brunch. Crepes has been may main stay but I am going to ur recipe. We love pumpkin pie.

We usually have special breakfast days on the weekend with pancakes, bacon and eggs!
That is also the only time I allow myself the treat of having coffee! Thanks! kmassman gmail
Anytime anyone makes me pancakes, I’m in heaven! I do love fresh fruit in the morning too, so a handmade fruit salad always impresses me.

My favorite special occasion breakfast is biscuits and country gravy with sausage and scrambled eggs. We don’t usually do that on Christmas or Thanksgiving mornings though. We just want cereal on the big holidays to save our appetites for all of the snacking, followed by huge dinners that come with the rest of the day.
Weekends and holidays are for bacon and eggs after healthy weekday breakfasts.
I love this special drink my mom makes – it’s cinammony, peanut buttery, and home-made
Even better when it’s not for any occasion!
New Years Day we all go to my parents house and eat pancakes and hamburger with gravy. It is good and the only day we eat it.
Our Christmas morning tradition is Sour Dough pancakes!! I *L-O-V-E* them! I have the starter, but I am horrible about making them for myself and my family – so Christmas Eve Mom preps the batter and then Christmas morning she makes them! YUMMO!!
Thanks for the chance!
My family does not have any breakfast traditions. We do mostly dinners. I think we need to start a breakfast tradition though.

We have a beautiful Thanksgiving meal with all the traditional food…I love that tradition! We love to make French Toast Casserole!

Christmas morning is the certainly my favorite morning. My kids are early morning risers, and Christmas morning is no different. They are up usually at about 6am. We watch them open all their presents while my husband and I drink our coffee. The stash of new toys keeps them busy while I start cooking breakfast. Our tradition is french toast (made with my mother’s homemade Challah bread), bacon, eggs, and homemade home fries. We feast and it usually keeps us full and satisfied until Christmas dinner is ready!
On Thanksgiving everyone knows to eat a big breakfast because the turkey won’t be ready until mid-afternoon. That being said, waffles are the most requested special breakfast food. We like to serve them with bacon or sausage, a Spanish Omelet and fresh fruit.
Easter morning we always have ham and eggs, OJ, and yummy warm cinnamon rolls!
Pumpkin Pie in a mug looks yummy!! MY fave holiday breakfast is New Years Day – we always go out to eat!
Our favorite special occasion breakfast is blueberry french toast casserole.

Holiday breakfasts I make homemade waffles and we have orange juice (we don’t usually have it around for regular breakfast, because the kids drink it all as soon as it is bought).
Got to say any holiday were we can get together for a grand dinner is my favorite!

On Christmas morning, we open presents first, then we eat breakafast, much, much, later. Usually everyone is so excited that food is the last thing on our minds. So, breakfast usally doesn’t happen until 11 or so. I make pancakes later on.

Forever and always, MONKEY BREAD! My family thinks it’s amazing!
We love to gather around our table and pull off big chunks. My husband doesn’t eat
cream cheese…..so I make two icings. His and ours!
I usually make the breakfast casserole that you let set overnight with the eggs and bread in it. It’s so easy to pop in the oven in the morning!
We always have breakfast at my house Christmas morning! We invite my aunt and uncle, mom and dad, grandparents – and everyone sits down for a nice family breakfast and my 5 year old son gets to show off his gifts from Santa! Sausage balls are our favorite – everyone loves them and it’s become a holiday tradition!! This year we’ll have a new addition – I have a baby due in a week, so it will be a little more challenging, but definitely special! I’ll be out on unpaid maternity leave through Christmas, so I would LOVE to win this to help actually purchase our breakfast items. Thanks for the chance! Here’s crossing my fingers!!

Holiday mornings are no different than our Sunday breakfasts. Sunday mornings are always a special morning. We have a big breakfast that varies from week to week as we each take turns picking our favorites! Now that we are older, we all take turns preparing the meal. We turn off the telephone, gather as a family, and share our stories, joke around, and spend quality time together.
My favorite special occasion breakfast is our sliced beef gravy and biscuits we have Christmas morning.
